Difference Between Nitronic 50 & Nitronic 60

Nitronic 50 and Nitronic 60 are both austenitic stainless steels with distinct mechanical and physical properties. Nitronic 50, also known as Nit50, provides nearly double the yield strength of common austenitic stainless steel grades like Alloy 304 and Alloy 316L, while maintaining excellent ductility and toughness across various temperatures. With a Pitting Resistance Equivalent number (PREN) exceeding 34, Nitronic 50 rivals duplex stainless steel grades such as S32205 and surpasses regular Alloy 316L in corrosion resistance. It's suitable for hydrogen and sour service, resisting sulphide stress cracking as per NACE MR 01 75. Nitronic 50 is available in annealed and 'High Strength' conditions, offering versatility in machining and performance.

On the other hand, Nitronic 60, sharing the same trademark, is a specialized alloy valued for its resistance to galling, which occurs when metal surfaces unintentionally join, causing damage during separation. This resistance is crucial for components like couplings and connectors subjected to prolonged intimate contact under load. Nitronic 60, heavily alloyed with silicon and manganese, provides superior galling resistance.
